continuity editing

180 degree rule- this is where 2 characters are facing each other during conversation and the camera is on one side of the actors, the camera cannot cross pass the line of interaction (imaginary line right through the 2  characters). If the camera does cross the line it can be confusing to the audience as the actors are no longer facing each other.

Match on action-  is a key part of continuity editing. it is where the actors use the same positions between frames to make sure the cuts flow better. this produces invisible cuts. The scene if filmed twice from different angles and edited later to match the actors action from the 1st scene which is then mirrored in the next scene so it flows better, it doesn't jump from scene to scene
